DREAM: “JONESTOWN” Aug.
28, 2017 7:48am
“They evicted my business license!” These were the first
words out of Jim’s mouth just after I had finished telling his wife that some
woman called on the phone, and she asked me if this was Jonestown.
“Yes.” I replied.
I explained to the woman that we were a peaceful religion,
and that if she needed to call the police, she should.
There was a channel of mud about six-feet wide and two and a
half feet deep. I had just finished commenting on how cold it was. That was
when I told Mrs. Jones about the phone call. I became very worried about the
rest of the group becoming hostile… even violent toward me!
As I briefly scanned the large newly settled campground, I
noticed Jim. He was wearing a long-sleeve white religious shirt, as he gave the
announcement about our landlord not renewing our lease. I wondered if I could
have said something more to the lady as images of our “eviction” flashed
through my mind. Maybe, I could have said something more… I could have invited
her for a personal tour of the compound, perhaps.
Anyway, now I was scared of what might happen to me. …If I
had only not shared the news of the call from an outsider with Mrs. Jones. I
had just told her about the call, so it was too late to take it back. She now
knew that I was the one responsible for the commune’s lease being canceled.
I was concerned that the group would be less than forgiving,
and that they might even try to kill me! If Jim would have only made his
announcement a few seconds earlier, then I would not have said anything to Mrs.
Jones, and I wouldn’t be in the hot-water I was now beginning to boil in.
